Beautifully Lost Weekend - Brick Lane

Sunday, April 19, 2015

This weekend the weather was just too lovely to stay indoors so I ventured out to another of my favourite spots in London - Brick Lane.

It's full of diverse culture, vintage basements stores and amazing smells from the various food trucks and stalls. I just love walking around and taking in all that it has to offer. I often find myself wandering through the side streets admiring the amazing graffiti adorning the brick walls - lots of hidden beauty.

First stop was a bite to eat from Mother Clucker's food truck at the Truman Brewery. This is a great little spot for discovering a variety of delicious food. From Venezuelan street food, American Buffalo Wings to classic stone baked Italian Pizza.

Then to the Back Yard Market to browse through the stalls of handmade jewellery and T-Shirts, and The Tea Rooms for little treasures. There was even a really cool candy apple stall serving amazing looking candy apples/caramel apples. Unfortunately, we were way too stuffed from lunch to even attempt these; the chocolate and Oreo one looked delicious!

It's a short walk down Brick Lane past the famous, and very popular, Beigel Bake shop towards Shoreditch Highstreet and Box Park - another of my favourite areas. By this time we were craving something sweet so we popped into DumDum Doughnuts. This place does some serious donuts and cronuts. Be prepared though, they are very indulgent and heavy! DumDum Donuts bake (thats right, bake) their donuts fresh every morning, and the Donuttterie is open until all the donuts are sold out... after that the store is closed and you'll have to try your luck the next day. They are very popular so try and get there early to avoid disappointment! The Zebra is a good choice.

It was a lovely day of walking around taking in the sun and sights, the sounds of a band playing music and the smell of all the different foods. Everyone's spirits were up, and it's really got me in the mood for summer!

  1. Terrific photos - I love Brick Lane on a weekend! Was it super crowded when you went? I used to live nearby and always headed for the Sunday (UP)Market for food ... the best.

    1. Thank you! It wasn't too crowded luckily, but it was getting a lot busier as I was leaving late afternoon/early evening.. good time to head off. I went on the Saturday so I didn't manage to go to the Sunday upmarket unfortunately.. next time!
